Leon G. Rosenthal was born to Landis and Maxine Rosenthal in Nebraska City. When he was in fifth grade, the family moved to Beatrice where he attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School. Upon graduation from high school, he attended St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas, Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and graduated from Christ Seminary in 1976 with a Masters of Divinity.
Pastor Rosenthal was ordained into the Holy Ministry of Word and Sacrament at Ascension Lutheran Church on July 10, 1977 in Riverside, Illinois. He served there as an Assistant Pastor from 1977 to 1981, working in the areas of youth ministry and adult education. From 1981 to 1983, he was Assistant Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church in Orland Park, Illinois, also with a focus in youth and educational ministries. From 1983 to 1989 he served Good Samaritan Lutheran Church on the southside of Chicago. He received
a Ph.D. in History of Christianity in 1989 from the University of
Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.
In 1989, he joined the ministry of Grace Lutheran Church and School, adjacent to Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, serving as Associate Pastor there until 1995, working especially in Confirmation Ministry, beginning a Stephen Ministry, and in Adult Education. From 1995 to 2000, he served as Pastor of Wilmette Lutheran Church, and from 2000 to 2005 ministered in Lincoln, Nebraska as pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church. In May of 2005, he was welcomed into the ministerium of the LCMS through the Colloquy Program, and several months later, began serving as Vacancy Pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Milford, Nebraska.
Pastor Rosenthal is married to Teresa June (Terri), and they have two children, Nathan and Anna.
Pastor Rosenthal was installed as Associate Pastor at Christ Lutheran on January 29, 2006.
